I originally posted this on Luuux and since then Sally Hansen has renewed their Diamond Strength No Chip Nail Color series. Its new packaging looks really cute. (Check here)
This shade looks really bright in the bottle and you may think it’s no good for daily use. When I got it as gift and used it for the first time, I was not sure what to do with it too. You can check out more swatches at KITTYPOLISHNBAGS, Crystal Polish, and Fashion Footing.
After some playing around with the colour, I decided that it’s a really nice polish for making gradient nails. As you can see on the photo above, the colour is pretty sheer. It layers nicely and seamlessly so it is really easy to make the gradient too. Basically all you do is:
- Paint the entire nail in 1st coat
- Paint top 2/3 of the nail in 2nd coat
- Paint top 1/3 of the nail in 3rd coat
- Finish it up with a top coat
Gradient nail makes your nails look longer and elegant. I also do the same type of nail with sheer gold nail polishes. It really isn’t very hard to do so please try and let me know if you like it.

The one you see in the fron is “Stellar”. These 2 bottle of China Glaze polishes are my first 2 from the brand. I have to say I am quite impressed with their quality. They are very opaque and doesn’t streak too much. “Stellar” is mauve/tan shade with tons of gold glitters.
Here is the Swatch
In this photo I applied 2 coats so it looks more gold than mauve. This shade is a little bit more sheer than the other one but it works better this way because of the glitter. I like how it’s not yellow gold. This platinam gold colour looks much more flattering on my skin tone. If I do 3 coats, it will look more mauve and that is very pretty colour too.
It usually lasts about 5-7 days with Essie top coat, while I am doing dishes and other housework every day. Considering that, I think it lasts pretty long.
